Mechanical mystery for Porto

Sebastian Porto revealed that an extensive post-mortem was set to take place on his Aprilia after it broke down just four laps from the end of the 250cc race at Rio on Sunday. The bikes were swiftly packed up for the trip back to Europe after the race with Porto still mystified and disappointed by the breakdown, which ended his hopes of a second successive Grand Prix win.

"I am pretty unhappy, I got a good start but a few people got in front of me," explained Porto. "Bit by bit I managed to make positions up and when I got to third I decided to go after Pedrosa and Poggiali, but the bike started to fail.

"We still don't know what the problem was but the team are working to find out. It was a shame because I was fighting to win the race. I don't know if I could have done it but I was at least going to try and I am sure that if I didn't win then I could have been up there on the podium.

"There is nothing you can do against bad luck like that – I just hope the engine is working well again in Germany."

250cc, 2004
