Set-up mistake for Nieto

Fonsi Nieto revealed that a mistake with the gearing of his Aprilia ahead of Sunday's Cinzano Rio Grand Prix was one of the main reasons why he was unable to maintain the pace of the front riders despite making a good start in the 250cc race. Fifth place for the Spaniard continues his miserable start to the season, with just one podium to show from the first seven rounds.

"I am not happy, although fifth place isn't bad for the championship considering the problem I had in the race," commented Nieto, who also lies fifth in the championship, 55 points behind series leader Dani Pedrosa.

"In the practice sessions it wasn't too bad because I had a decent rhythm in 1'54s, but in the race we lost a second from qualifying and from the morning warm-up.

"The reason was that we mounted a longer gear setting than the one we used in qualifying and that made us lose a few vital tenths from the engine.

"That, as well as a bad choice of front tyre, meant that I couldn't be in the front group fighting for the podium."
