De Angelis reflects on best result yet

Alex de Angelis continued his quietly impressive start to the 250cc World Championship with his best result so far at the Cinzano Rio Grand Prix on Sunday. The San Marino youngster started from fifth position on the grid and got a good start but was touched by another rider in the first corner and ran wide.

Trailing down in ninth place at the end of lap one, De Angelis battled his way to fourth position by lap nineteen and pushed Toni Elias all the way for third place, finishing a second down on the Spaniard on his first visit to the track with the quarter-litre machine.

"I made a pretty good start but in the first corner I was touched by somebody and got pushed out wide," explained the 20 year old rookie, who lies sixth in the rider standings. "That cost me a lot of places but I was able to keep my concentration and begin my recovery.

"I quickly found a good pace and passed a few riders and I am very happy because this is my result yet on the RSW250. I think I have made a big step forward with this result.

"It has been good for my confidence and now I am really looking forward to the next race in Germany."
