Locatelli back at the top of his game

After winning the 125cc World Championship in 2000, Roberto Locatelli was unable to reproduce his form in the 250 class or on his return to the 125 class last year with KTM.

The Italian veteran now finds himself back at the front of the field with Lucio Cecchinello's Safilo Carrera team and is the elder statesman fighting the battle with the youngsters in the category such as Andrea Dovizioso, Hector Barbera and Casey Stoner.

In our exclusive feature Locatelli takes a look back to that championship winning season and discusses his return to form in 2004, explaining how his experiences over the past two seasons have changed him as a rider and expressing his gratitude for the new lease of life offered to him by his great friend and former rival Cecchinello.

"I already noticed in the November tests that things had changed in my life and career, because the year at KTM was very difficult, due to the newness of the whole thing and trying to make a project competitive that I was unable to get into shape," says Locatelli.

"Lucio was brave and also on my part a great friend in giving me another opportunity to be here now. Now we hope that the fairytale will come true towards the end."
