Last year at Sachsenring

Stefano Perugini rode a measured race to clinch victory over Casey Stoner in a typically frantic 125cc race at Sachsenring last year. The Italian veteran passed the Australian teenager on the penultimate lap after dicing in the lead group throughout the race with Dani Pedrosa and Alex De Angelis as Stoner set the pace.

One week after their controversial coming together at Donington Park, Perugini seemed to be toying with Pedrosa before his charge to the front, the young Spaniard unable to respond and left out of the final podium scrap in fourth place.

Whilst Stoner lined up Perugini in the final corner, a surprise attack from De Angelis forced him to defend his position and settle for his first ever podium finish in second place.

Further back, Pablo Nieto would surely have affected the leading group if his start had not been so bad, the Spaniard working his way up to fifth place from 18th, whilst team-mate Hector Barbera was leading the race in the early laps but could only manage fourteenth after being handed a jump start penalty.

Steve Jenkner did his title hopes no good as he crashed out of his home GP on his 100th appearance, slipping to fifth place in a title battle which saw Pedrosa's advantage cut to 20 points by Perugini.
