There are several changes to the 125cc entry list for the Veltins Motorrad Grand Prix, with a mixture of surprise appearances, wildcards and replacements. The name that stands out the most from the list of 38 riders is that of the 2001 race winner here at Sachsenring, Simone Sanna. The Italian has been called up by the Sterilgarda Racing team to replace Andrea Ballerini.

Elsewhere in the class, Czech rider Vaclav Bittman is set to replace injured home rider Dario Guisepetti, whilst Derbi youngster Jorge Lorenzo faces a late fitness check after an operation on his hand to repair tissue damage sustained in his crash at Rio two weeks ago.

Czech female rider Marketa Janakova has recovered from concussion sustained in the same race and expects to ride, whilst Swiss youngster Thomas Luthi is set to return after missing three races.

The list of wildcards is headed by German Red Bull rookie Georg Frölich, who also returns to his schedule of competing in all of the European races after injuring himself during qualifying at Le Mans in May. Fellow Germans Patrick Unger and Manuel Mickan will also ride as wildcards, as will Spanish championship regular Julian Miralles.
