Colin Edwards commented that he felt ‘more comfortable than ever' with the Honda RC211V at Donington Park today, after contesting the top positions on the time sheets throughout the first qualifying session and eventually settling for a second row slot on the provisional grid.

The ‘Texan Tornado' has failed to pull up any trees so far this season but is confident he can turn things around at a circuit where he took victories during his days as a Superbike rider.

"I am really happy, I've felt more comfortable than I ever have with the bike in this first session and that could be seen throughout the whole practice," commented Edwards. "After the race at the Sachsenring we have made a few small changes to the front end and my feeling has improved a lot.

"With the new track surface it was like starting again from scratch here because I could remember all the bumpy areas and now they're gone. I think the times will come down even more tomorrow."

Edwards team-mate Sete Gibernau qualified one place higher up the provisional grid and was also happy with his day's work. "We can be satisfied with the way we have started off here in England after what happened in the last two races," said Gibernau, who crashed out in Brazil and Germany.

"We needed to have a little ‘reset' and start to get the best out of all our hard work again. I still feel that the best of me is yet to come and we have not lost our way, not at all.

"Today's effort confirms that we are still working with cool heads and with clear ideas about what we need. I feel good physically and mentally and am confident about the rest of the season, and that is a good base to start the recovery from.

"The circuit has improved a lot with the new surface and the times are pretty good, although we are all still adapting to it at the moment."
