Barros on top in FP2

Alex Barros confirmed his return to form with the fastest time in the second free practice session of the Cinzano British Grand Prix. Barros clocked 1'29.621 on his updated RC211V, which features a new exhaust system yet to be used by any other HRC rider, to top the time sheets ahead of Troy Bayliss on the Ducati and Yamaha's Valentino Rossi.

Colin Edwards was again impressive, setting consistently fast times and eventually moving up to fourth place on the final classification, one place ahead of his team-mate Sete Gibernau. Loris Capirossi, who qualified on the provisional front row yesterday, was sixth fastest, with Carlos Checa, Nicky Hayden, John Hopkins and Kenny Roberts completing the top ten.

In the 250cc session Sebastian Porto lapped underneath the current pole record, set yesterday by Alex de Angelis, by almost a second. Porto was one of four riders to lap under 1'33 for the first time on a quarter-litre machine here, his lap of 1'32.487 holding off strong challenges from De Angelis, Randy De Puniet and Dani Pedrosa.

Andrea Dovizioso was once again the fastest man in 125cc, the provisional pole holder establishing himself as a clear favourite for Sunday's race after lapping two tenths quicker than nearest rival Jorge Lorenzo. Dovizioso's lap of 1'37.589 was also under pole record time on a dry but cool morning at the Leicestershire track.
