Xaus gets familiar with Craner Curves

Ruben Xaus became the first victim of the notorious Craner Curves section at Donington Park on Friday morning, the Spaniard getting caught out by a cold tyre which spat him from his Ducati D16 GP3 in the first free practice. It was an early warning for the rookie, who escaped without injury and was able to qualify eleventh fastest in the afternoon session despite the setback.

I did have a fast crash, but I think it was because I was using a harder tyre than I thought and I hadnt warmed it up enough, explained Xaus. It wasnt serious though, and I returned to the box to continue with the second bike, but as is usual in these situations, you never find yourself completely at ease and it breaks your rhythm a bit.

In the afternoon I had a few electronic problems and at the end I put on qualifying tyres on the second bike, the one that didnt convince me too much, but I had a good rhythm and Im a second off pole. I think the set-up is quite good and weve still got today left to work on it.
