Biaggi rues gearbox problem

Max Biaggi revealed that a gearbox problem was the reason behind his disappointing performance in the Cinzano British Grand Prix at Donington Park on Sunday. After taking his first victory of the season at the Sachsenring seven days previously, Biaggi was unable to take consecutive wins for the first time in his career and was joined in second place in the championship by Sete Gibernau, conceding 21 points to series leader Valentino Rossi.

"During the sighting lap I felt that the gearbox was not perfect but, given that we had the same problem during the today's warm up, and that they told me it was sorted out, I told myself it was just an impression," explained Biaggi.

"But it was not and I realised that during the warm-up lap. I thought about entering the pit to change bikes but it would be even worse in terms of time lost and maybe I wouldn't even have earned these four point that allow me to keep the second position in the championship.

"After such two great races in Rio and Sachsenring it is really disappointing to make only twelfth. I'll try to quickly put all this behind and to look forward to Brno."
