Mechanical mystery for Elías

Toni Elías revealed that he was unsure of the reason behind his mechanical breakdown which saw the Spanish rider retire from the Cinzano British Grand Prix at Donington Park in Sunday. Elías looked in good shape to battle for third place after lapping with the second group in the opening stages but was forced out on the thirteenth lap.

"To be honest I'm really disappointed because I think I was in good shape to fight for the podium and in the end I had to retire," commented a mystified Elías. "I still don't know what happened with the bike – we'll just have to have a look at it with my technicians."

"I didn't make a good start but I felt good and I had a decent rhythm, so it wasn't too much trouble to get into the group chasing Pedrosa, but I had an incident with Aoyama on the first lap and it made me lose time". "It wasn't a great weekend but at the end of the day I think we have things moving in the right direction now and I was sure I could have had a good result today."
