Gibernau splashes out with his fans before holidays

The rider of the Telefónica Movistar, Sete Gibernau, yesterday morning played around with a different kind of bike; a Jetski! The Spaniard splashed around with fans and media in Barcelona, before starting a holiday and making the most of a three week break before the next round of the World Championship on 22nd August in the Czech Republic.

A total of 22 Jetskis departed from the Port Ginesta in Castelldefels, just down the road from the cosmopolitan city, at 9.30am, thundering up to the cultural Forum conference on the other side of the metropolis. They were welcomed by the Catalan Honda rider, who currently stands second in the MotoGP series 22 points behind Valentino Rossi.

From there the entire group motored around to the Port Olímpic, where the 31 year old signed some autographs and where he sampled some food until the end of the day. "Today was about enjoyment just before the hardest part of the World Championships begins," remarked the cheery and personable GP winner.

"This season the level of competition is high and widespread. The plan was that when things do not go so well that we still finish on the podium and when everything works fine then we can win. We had some mistakes in Brazil and Germany that cost us dearly in terms of points. The truth is that I am very happy because the team has grown and progressed so much."

Gibernau now starts a three week holiday partially dedicated to relaxation and taking a break from the bike racing world, otherwise undergoing an intense physical training program in Switzerland to be fully prepped for the Gauloises Grand Prix of the Czech Republic on August 22nd.
