Dovizioso reflects on ‘important' win

Andrea Dovizioso took his third victory of the season and perhaps his most important yet at Donington Park last weekend, dominating from start to finish and ending the race as the only rider in the top five of the championship to score any points at all.

With Hector Barbera, Roberto Locatelli and Pablo Nieto all crashing out, and Casey Stoner not taking part through injury, Dovizioso was able to open his advantage to 32 points at the top of the standings and admitted it was a key performance in his quest to win the title.

"It was a very important victory," commented Dovizioso. "Apart from the fact that a lot of my rivals fell, I was able to get out and race on my own at the front. That was the one thing I hadn't done yet but finally I have.

"You can't always take risks when you are defending a points lead in the championship, but we are halfway through the season now and you can't just hang around waiting either.

"In other races a lot of riders have benefitted from a group battle in the last couple of laps and when it is like that you can lose points very easily. So for that reason I think the best way is to always push and give your maximum."
