Nicky Hayden fulfilling his promise

After a shaky start to his second year in the MotoGP World Championship, factory Honda rider Nicky Hayden has shown recent signs of a return to the form which saw him take the Rookie of the Year title last season.

Podium finishes at Rio and Sachsenring were followed up by a fourth place at Donington Park – the kind of results Hayden admits he should have been chasing from the very first race of the season.

"I would say that the pace for me improved a lot this year," says Hayden. "I think the Yamaha became not a better bike but just when Valentino went there, at the end of last year there were three or four guys, mainly the Hondas and then now it's all the Yamahas again.

"For sure Valentino probably improved the bike and just once he was doing good on it, it gave those guys more hope and that's a lot of it - just the pace.

"I've had a few things that didn't go my way, I've had the speed a lot of times, but it's just putting the whole weekend together with the qualifying and the race you've got to be able to be right there. "
