Haruchika Aoki makes Autorace debut

Former MotoGP rider Haruchika Aoki picked up his racing career last weekend, making his debut in the national Autorace series in Japan.

Autorace, which is similar to speedway but is run on a concrete oval, is hugely popular amongst Japanese race fans and is one of the most lucrative betting sports in the country.

Aoki, who won the 125cc World Championship back in 1995 and 1996, found himself in the Grand Prix wilderness after being released by the Arie Molenaar 250cc team at the end of the 2002 season, but made a successful return to competitive action with three straight victories on his Autorace debut after ten months of intensive training.
