Byrne dislocates wrist in practice crash

Shane Byrne was airlifted to hospital as a precautionary measure after a spectacular crash in the second free practice for the Gauloises Grand Prix Ceske Republiky on Saturday morning. Byrne highsided from his Aprilia halfway into the session, scattering the track surface with oil as his RS3 bounced across the tarmac.

As the red flag was raised to halt the session, Byrne was rushed by ambulance to the circuit medical centre, where doctors confirmed that he had escaped without major injury. However, the British Superbike Champion suffered light concussion as well as heavy knocks to his left hand and right leg, and was taken to the local hospital for further checks.

It was later confirmed that the 26 year old had dislocated his left wrist.
