Shane Byrne targets Motegi return

Shane Byrne was ruled out of the Gauloises Grand Prix Ceske Republiky after a severe crash, but made a prompt return to the paddock. The Aprilia rider crashed heavily in Saturday free practice session and was later diagnosed with a dislocated left wrist and a fracture of his scaphoid bone.

After spending the night at the hospital, ‘Shakey' was back in the MotoGP paddock on Sunday afternoon to see his team mate Jeremy McWilliams taking the flag in 14th. The British Superbike Champion confirmed that he will miss the next round, in Portugal, but was confident he will be fit enough to race for the Motegi race, on September 19.

"I'm feeling a bit beaten up at the moment. I'll be doing everything possible to be fit for the Twin Ring Motegi but for the next few days I'm going to relax and wait for the aches and pains to go away in Spain, "said Byrne.

"I don't remember much about the crash but I have seen it on the video and it was quite a big one. I was a bit unlucky to get injured but I can't wait to get back on the bike. Hopefully that will be in Japan, but I will be keeping in contact with Dr Costa over the next few weeks and getting some laser treatment in England to hopefully help me recover a bit faster."
