After taking second place behind Sebastian Porto's audacious dash for victory in Sunday's 250cc race at Brno, Randy de Puniet admitted he was satisfied with a 20-point haul which edged him closer to runaway championship leader Dani Pedrosa.

The Frenchman's podium success was made all the sweeter by the fact that he struggled with mechanical problems throughout the race and feared that he might not score any points at all.

"I'm fairly happy with second, considering I had gearbox problems right from the formation lap," explained De Puniet. "I had trouble down shifting on hard brakings.

"I was able to take the lead with six laps to go, and then Pedrosa passed me. It rained again and Pedrosa raised his hand. I thought the race was over, but it wasn't and Porto passed both of us. He took us both by surprise for a second time – basically he was smarter. I tried to follow him, but he was already gone. "The track was very slippery in the second and third sectors. De Angelis crashed just in front of me and maybe that calmed me down a little bit. I couldn't follow Porto and go for a win because I just backed off too much, but as far as the championship is concerned, taking four points away from Pedrosa is not too bad."

De Puniet was back on track on Monday and Tuesday as part of a two day test organised by Aprilia to evaluate a new chassis, reporting positive results despite a crash which ended the session early on the second day.
