Double test for Matsudo at Brno

Naoki Matsudo made his first appearance on a MotoGP machine in a private session at Brno on Monday morning, when he took part in a brief test with the WCM team. The UGT Kurz rider, who regularly rides a Yamaha in the 250cc World Championship, is chasing a full-time contract with the team for 2005, when they will enter with a V6 prototype in conjunction with the Czech minibike manufacturers Blata.

"The test went ahead as planned and I was able to ride a MotoGP machine for the first time," comfirmed Matsudo. "It didn't feel strange, although it was very different to my 250."

In the afternoon the experienced Japanese rider was back on a quarter-litre machine, testing an Aprilia for the Equipe GP de France–SCRAB, but says his priority is to secure a deal with Peter Clifford's outfit in MotoGP.

"It was also the first time I had ridden an Aprilia – the team wanted me to test the engine response," explained Matsudo. "I gave the mechanics my opinion about the bike, which is that it is a fast and powerful machine.

"On Tuesday I went to visit Blata and spoke with officials of both the factory and WCM. I have a few options on the table to stay in 250 next year but my dream is to ride in the premier class and this is an opportunity I have been waiting for for a long time."
