Elías looks to championship

Toni Elías said he was happy with the result of last weekend's Gauloises Grand Prix Ceske Republiky after leapfrogging both Alex de Angelis and Fonsi Nieto in the championship standings.

Set-up problems aggravated by poor weather over the course of the weekend meant the Fortuna Honda rider was unable to fight for victory, but a fifth placed finish moved him up to fourth overall, with third place a seemingly impossible target thanks to Sebastian Porto's 56-point advantage.

"It was a hard weekend, we suffered quite a lot and the weather prevented us from working well," said Elías. "In the race I started well and was up with the leading group, but we could not manage miracles with the set-up and, in the end, the front tyre was deteriorating and I could not push as I wanted.

"It was a strange race and we made it more difficult for ourselves, but given the circumstances I don't think fifth is a bad result. The result has enabled me to climb a couple of places in the standings and that is good."
