Hayden looks to Portugal after Czech disappointment

Nicky Hayden's disappointment at crashing out of the Gauloises Grand Prix Ceske Republiky last Sunday was compounded earlier this week by two days of problematic tests at the Brno circuit. The Repsol Honda rider was hindered by a string of technical problems which denied him the chance to leave the Czech Republic with at least a grain of consolation and says he is now looking forward to banishing the memory with a good performance in the next round at Estoril.

"You know, honestly, it hasn't gone very good at all, but I guess that's racing and some days are a lot better than others," reflected Hayden at the end of the test on Tuesday afternoon.

"When I crashed on Sunday I tore up one bike pretty good so that left us with one bike for the test. On Monday I had a problem quite early with one engine and it wiped us out for the rest of the day. They couldn't get the bike ready and, not having a spare bike, I was done.

"Today we had a little problem after about lunchtime and we never got it solved so I pretty much lost another half a day. But we did a lot of tyre testing for Michelin in the laps we did and definitely Michelin's got some stuff that seems to be better and they're working hard.

"So it hasn't been the two days that I'd hoped for. We had a lot of other stuff to try and I'd have liked to get in a long run but that's racing and we'll just have to wait until we get to Portugal.

"Portugal was alright last year. I don't like to make the excuse that it's hard to learn a track but last year the first day there was one track I definitely didn't get up to speed with real quick, but in the race was when it actually came real good.

"The last five or ten laps of the race were my fastest of the weekend, so it took me a while to get a good feeling but by the end I got things going pretty good there. So we'll look forward to going there, starting out Friday morning and just seeing what we've got."
