Youichi Ui admits the end of his season

Youichi Ui has confirmed that he does not expect to ride again this season after being sacked by the Abruzzo Racing team ahead of the last round at Brno. Ui was replaced by Andrea Ballerini for the Gauloises Grand Prix Ceske Republiky and revealed his disappointment having suffered a similar fate one year ago, when he was dropped by Sterilgarda Racing.

"It is a very unsavoury situation and it has happened to me in two consecutive seasons," commented Ui. "I am not convinced by the excuses the team have given me for breaking the contract. I had a two year deal for a season in 125cc followed by a season in 250cc.

"I had a bad experience last summer and this year my lawyer made sure of the most minute details of the contract. He is now in negotiations with the team. I am leaving the team against my wishes."

The Japanese veteran has not ruled out the possibility of emerging as a replacement for an injured rider, but will not accept a contract from any other team looking to replace their own riders.

"In Brno several teams expressed an interest in hiring my services but they already have riders and I don't want anybody else getting sacked. I don't want to put my fellow riders in my situation and I rejected all of the offers, although I would be happy to consider a ride if somebody was injured.

"I will be in Estoril to sort a few things out. I am very sorry for my fans and my sponsors, but I can tell them that I want to continue racing in this World Championship."
