Juan Martinez explains Gibernau's exhaust concerns

The was an element of controversy to the qualifying sessions for the Grande Premio Marlboro de Portugal this weekend, when it emerged that Sete Gibernau had rejected the latest exhaust updates offered to him by HRC. Gibernau received the new material before the race at Brno but opted to stick with his old bike in the light of limited dry track time available to make the necessary set-up adjustments to the bike.

Gibernau's decision proved to be well founded as he charged to victory in Sunday's dry race, with two days of tests with the new parts at the Czech track to follow. However, despite reporting positive results from the test, Gibernau has again declined to use the new exhaust at Estoril – a decision which has raised more than a few eyebrows within the paddock.

In this exclusive interview, Gibernau's Chief Mechanic Juan Martinez explains the team's reasoning behind the decision to stick with the old bike and outlines their development plans for the remaining six races.
