Barbera earns victory at Estoril

Hector Barbera claimed his third win of the season in a thrilling Portuguese GP at Estoril. The Spaniard had to fend the fierce challenge of KTM Mika Kallio, who eventually took his first podium of the season.

Jorge Lorenzo, winner of the last race in Brno, emerged victor of a four-way tussle for third. The Derbi rider took the flag ahead of Pablo Nieto, Alvaro Bautista and Marco Simoncelli.

The race saw a major turnaround when early breakaway leader Andrea Dovizioso retired with a rear puncture. Previously, Casey Stoner and Simone Corsi retired after a strong start, as the pair clashed in the exit of the last corner, Corsi crashing in the straight and Stoner retiring moments later due to extensive damage.

As Locatelli could only take ninth, Barbera reclaimed second in the Championship and reduced the gap on series leader Dovizioso to 20 points.
