Pedrosa blames slow puncture

Dani Pedrosa claimed he was unable to fight for victory in the 250cc Grande Premio Marlboro de Portugal due to a slow puncture on his rear tyre. Pedrosa struggled to fourth place in Sunday's race, the only time he has missed the podium this year other than his crash in the wet race at Jerez back in May, but admitted the situation could be much worse as he maintains a 27-point lead in the championship.

"We have had a problem with the rear tyre – it got punctured by a nail and was losing air throughout the race. I could tell something was wrong from the first lap and I couldn't do anything other than give my best.

"In the end I've hung on and finished fourth. It's not the result I wanted but, depending on how you look at it, it's quite good because the same thing happened to Dovizioso in the 125 race and he had to retire. At least I made it to the finish line."
