Barberá back in title chase

Héctor Barberá's rollercoaster season in the 125cc class continued last Sunday with victory at the Grande Premio Marlboro de Portugal. Having crossed the line seventh at Brno two weeks previously and crashing out of the round before that at Donginton, Barberá picked up his third victory of the season at Estoril as his two main title rivals Andrea Dovizioso and Roberto Locatelli slipped up.

Dovizioso retired from the race with a punctured tyre whilst Locatelli could only manage ninth position, meaning the Spanish youngster is now just 20 points behind the former at the top of the championship and nine points clear of the latter in third place.

"Today was really special," commented Barberá after the race. "Clarence (Seedorf) was here and I was really motivated to do well. Everybody in the team has helped me a lot. Before the race, on the grid, they were giving me plenty of encouragement and they were really supportive after the last two races.

"I had a really clear objective, which was to win. If I could do that and Dovizioso slipped up then even better, and that's how it worked out – with Locatelli not finishing at the front being an added bonus.

"I think we have shown that we can compete when we really have to. I learnt my lesson at Brno and hopefully things can go on from here. I have to thank the team. If we can keep going like this then we can aspire to anything."
