Mike di Meglio on his way back to form

Mike di Meglio says he is confident of a return to the front of the 125cc field after showing signs of his best form in the race at Estoril last weekend. Di Meglio sprang to fame with a front row start and fifth place in the opening race of the season at Welkom but has been unable to match that performance in the ten races since.

However, a charge to eleventh place from 23rd on the grid in Portugal has given the Globet.com Racing rider plenty of reason for optimism in closing stages of the season.

"In Portugal the weekend started badly – I was trying too hard to make up time on the brakes and it wasn't working," explains Di Meglio, still the youngest rider in the series at 16 years of age.

"After speaking to the team I decided to change my tactics in the warm-up, braking earlier to make better use of the corner speed and getting on the gas earlier out of the corner.

"In the race I just concentrated on getting a good start. We had been practising our starts on an airfield in Modena (Italy) and it came in really useful. I got boxed in a little bit into the first corner but I made up a few positions on the first lap and tried to follow the lead group, although in the end I had to make do with consolidating my position.

"Now I have to keep putting everything I have learnt so far into practice on the track and make sure I have a solid finish to the season."
