Kagayama looking forward to Qatar return

Yukio Kagayama is looking forward to his return to MotoGP action after clinching third overall in the THINK! British Superbike Championship at Donington Park last weekend. Kagayama is set to deputise for injured Team Suzuki rider Kenny Roberts in the next two races, at Qatar and Sepang, before making way for factory test rider Gregorio Lavilla at Phillip Island.

"I feel sorry that Kenny cannot race in Qatar - I hope he makes a speedy recovery and am honoured to be taking his place in the team," said the 30 year-old Japanese rider, who has made several MotoGP appearances with Suzuki since the start of the four-stroke era.

"I think that the Suzuki GSV-R is fast improving and is a good bike to ride - this will not be the first time that I have ridden it, having been a test rider in 2003 when I also enjoyed some wild-card entries, having some good battles with MotoGP riders."

Kagayama reckons his experience of competing in the British Superbike Championship will be a big boost at Qatar: "Everyone goes there with no circuit experience and maybe this is a small advantage to me. I have raced for two years in British Superbikes and have had to learn tracks quickly to be competitive and am used to this sort of pressure.

"I have had an enjoyable season with Rizla Suzuki and now have the big chance to race on the biggest stage in the world - I am very excited."
