Xaus looks forward to level playing field

Ruben Xaus says he is looking at the Marlboro Grand Prix of Qatar as an opportunity to return to the front of the pack at a track where no rider has previous knowledge. The Spanish rookie has had to get to grips with a host of new circuits, as well as a new bike, this season and says it will be nice to start the weekend's action on "a level playing field."

Both Xaus and his d'Antin Ducati MotoGP team-mate Neil Hodgson will be made to feel at home at the Losail circuit, which has been one of the team's sponsors this season, and as such this will be an extra special debut for the pair.

"I love to discover new places and I can't wait to get to Doha, if nothing else because we've had the circuit's logo on our kit for the whole year," said Xaus, who is currently leading the chase for the Rookie of the Year title from Alex Hofmann by 17 points.

"It's a new event for everyone and that means that at least in one area we are on a level playing field with the other riders. The track looks quite winding, and we know it will be hot, so that's something to really take into account.

"The fact that the track is near the desert makes you think there might not be too much grip, but it seems that they have tried to resolve this and for our part we will just work hard to get the bike set-up well so we can defend our colours and give a good show."
