Mike di Meglio has promised to make the grid for the inaugural race at the Losail International Circuit despite riding with a fractured ankle. The Frenchman, who is the youngest rider in Grand Prix, missed the 125cc morning free practice because of the injury, which is heavily strapped, but went out in the afternoon to complete nine laps.

`The ankle is very stiff and, of course, very painful, and it wasn't quite ready for this morning´, explained Di Meglio, who did not qualify on the provisional grid. `I can't even stand up on it so it is very difficult to apply pressure to the footpegs, especially down the straights.

`There is a clean horizontal fracture across my ankle bone and the Achilles is also damaged. Every time I change gear my ankle clicks, so it's very uncomfortable. But I'm getting plenty of treatment from the Clinica Mobile and I'll be back out to try and qualify tomorrow.´
