De Puniet waves goodbye to the title

Randy de Puniet admitted his 250cc World Championship challenge was over after crashing out of the Marlboro Grand Prix of Qatar on Saturday. The Frenchman now trails Dani Pedrosa by 67 points at the top of the standings with a maximum of 75 remaining.

That is it for me now, the championship is over, said De Puniet. Im really disappointed but it has been difficult for quite some time. My mechanics have apologised over the crash because we have had some suspension problems all weekend which we werent able to work out, but that is as much my responsibility as theirs and I dont blame them.

I got a bad start in the race and I was ninth on the first lap. I tried to catch the front group because anything behind Porto and Pedrosa was no good to me. I pushed as hard as I possibly could but unfortunately in one right corner I opened the gas too early and lost control of the rear.

In any case its not been a bad season for me and now I just want to dust myself down and look forward to the final three races. I havent won since Catalunya and I want to put that right before the end of the season.
