Dovizioso wins title with second behind Stoner

Andrea Dovizioso became the fourth youngest World Champion in history thanks to second place in a 125cc race won by Casey Stoner at Sepang on Sunday.

Whilst Stoner's victory was his first of the season and the first ever for KTM since they arrived in road racing Grand Prix last season, the headlines will go to Dovizioso and Honda, who have had an unerringly consistent season with just one result outside the top four from the fourteen races so far.

Stoner made a typical early break from the pack and set a fast pace over the opening half of the race which was only matched by Dovizioso. The Italian tucked in behind the Australian as potential title rival Hector Barberá crashed on the second lap and then Jorge Lorenzo retired just a couple of laps later.

A podium finish was enough for Dovizioso but he had promised to fight for victory and took the challenge to Stoner all the way to the flag. However, the Australian closed the doors on the final lap and hung on to win by 0.029 seconds.

Alvaro Bautista completed the podium in third place after distancing himself from a close battle with Fabrizio Lai, whilst Roberto Locatelli came through to beat Lai to fourth. Julian Simon scored his best ever result in sixth place.
