West to ride with cracked wrist

Anthony West has promised to ride in his home race at Phillip Island this weekend despite cracking his wrist in a crash at Sepang on Sunday. The Australian was unable to avoid Roby Rolfo as the Italian crashed on the second lap of the Marlboro Malaysian Grand Prix, but it was West who came out worst as Rolfo escaped unhurt.

As well as the cracked left wrist, West also damaged his left eye and was in severe pain on Sunday evening. "It hurts like hell but I've got a few days to recover and I'll be racing at Phillip Island," said West, who finished second in the wet race last year.

"I wouldn't miss my home race for the world – I've been looking forward to it all year and so have a lot of my family and friends. It's not easy trying to compete with the factory boys on a privateer bike at the best of times, so it will be even harder with the injury. I'll just have to get it injected and get out there and ride."
