Sheene honoured by second ride-in

The second annual "Ride to the GP – a tribute to Barry Sheene" took place today, with several hundred motorcyclists arriving at Phillip Island en masse after a 300km journey from Bairnsdale. The ride was led by Sheene's former team-mate Steve Parrish and three-time 500cc Grand Prix winner Darryl Beattie, who both now work as a television commentators.

After a brief lunch-break in the town of Morwell, the convoy arrived at the last point of mainland Australia in San Remo and crossed the bridge to Phillip Island, where they were joined by former five-time 500cc World Champion Mick Doohan.

"It's been a great day and I can safely say it was the type of event Barry would have loved," said Parrish. "Living in England you forget just how much Barry meant to everybody down here in Australia so it was nice to get together with everybody and reminisce, although I can't repeat some of the stories here!"
