Borsoi back on form at the island

Gino Borsoi set provisional pole for the 125cc race at Phillip Island after a surprise return to form at the age of 30. The Italian veteran set the pace for much of the afternoon session and withheld a string of late pole attacks from Andrea Dovizioso and Casey Stoner. Borsoi has not set pole since Assen 2001 and has yet to win a race but tonight sits at the front of the provisional grid with tomorrow's final qualifying session still to go.

Dovizioso, meanwhile, occupies second spot as he looks to consolidate his newfound World Champion status and is joined on the front row by home favourite Stoner and Borsoi's fellow veteran Mirko Giansanti. Hector Barbera, Jorge Lorenzo and Roberto Locatelli line-up alongside each other on the provisional second row, with the trio now locked in a battle to seal the runner-up spot in the championship with two rounds remaining.

Last year's runner-up Stefano Perugini makes up the second row riding the Gilera whilst Pablo Nieto heads the winner of the 125cc race here one year ago, Andrea Ballerini, on row three.
