Pedrosa clinches second crown

Dani Pedrosa celebrated World Championship success for the second successive season at Phillip Island today, one year after breaking both of his ankles in a practice crash at this very track. The Spaniard finished fourth in a race won by Sebastián Porto, making him the youngest quarter-litre champion of all time in what is his first season in the category.

Porto sealed the runner-up spot in the championship with his fifth triumph of the season after dominating the race from start to finish. Aprilia colleagues Alex de Angelis and Manuel Poggiali completed the podium, with Poggiali moving ahead of Pedrosa just a few laps from the end as the Spaniard opted to secure the title.

Toni Elías took fifth place whilst British teenager Chaz Davies sealed his best ever Grand Prix finish in an impressive sixth ahead of factory riders such as Honda pair Hiroshi Aoyama and Roberto Rolfo in seventh and tenth respectively. Sylvain Guintoli took eighth place whilst Johan Stigefelt clinched his best finish of the season in ninth.
