Ant West remembers Phillip Island horror crash

Ant West admitted he couldnt remember much about the horror crash which ended his hopes of competing in his home Grand Prix at Phillip Island last Friday but said there was no mistaking the injuries which will serve as a constant reminder over the coming winter. West has been definitely ruled out of the final round of the year at Valencia and faces a race against time to get fit for the 2005 preseason.

I remember going into the turn and the wind caught me, and with my bad hand from last week I just couldnt hold the bike and I remember sliding along the ground, explained West, who had cracked his wrist in Malaysia five days previously when he was knocked out of the race by Roby Rolfo.

The next minute I woke up in the gravel trap and there was about ten guys standing around me picking me up onto the stretcher. From then on I was in a fair bit of pain I was like screaming almost so it was pretty bad for the first half hour with the pain.

In my left wrist some bones have broken off and they had to wire it up and screw that it was dislocated as well. Because my leathers came down, Ive got cuts all the way down my right arm lots of cuts all over the place, Im really ripped up so the rest of me is pretty bruised up a stiff neck everythings sore at the moment!
