Poggiali congratulates Pedrosa

Manuel Poggiali paid tribute to Dani Pedrosa at the Cinzano Australian Grand Prix on Sunday after handing over his crown of 250cc World Champion. The San Marino rider endured a torrid defence of his title but returned to form with third place at Phillip Island after two races out through injury.

"Dani has been the best rider this season and he deserves this title," said Poggiali, who took his only victory so far this season at Rio back in July.

"He has been quick and consistent and that is what you need to win championships. It has been a difficult season for me but hopefully I will be back stronger to challenge Dani for the title next season."

On his effort in Australia, when Poggiali raced with around thirty stitches still in his leg after suffering nasty cuts in a squash accident in Qatar, the Aprilia rider added: "The leg gave me no problem in the race and I want to thank the doctors at the Clinica Mobile because they did a great job in helping me achieve this result.

"I am very happy to be back on the podium after my injury problems. Now I want to get a good result in Valencia to end the season on a high note."
