Pedrosa takes time out to visit orphanage

Dani Pedrosa took time out of his title celebrations this weekend to visit the Aldeas Infantiles SOS orphanage in his hometown of Barcelona, Spain. The 250cc World Champion, who is preparing for the final round of the season at Valencia next weekend, showed his support for one of 423 Aldeas centres in 131 countries around the world, which offer a family, stable home and education to around 200,000 children.

The Barcelona centre, in Sant Feliú de Codines, was the first of its kind to be opened in Spain back in 1972 and currently houses 42 children. The project has been sponsored by Telefónica Móviles España since November 2003 and Pedrosa was delighted to hand out presents to the children and tell them of his experiences travelling the world.

"It's the first time I have visited Aldeas Infantiles and it was fantastic to see the positive outlook of the kids and the look of happiness on their faces," said Pedrosa, who made his Grand Prix debut at the age of fifteen.

"I had the honour of planting an olive tree, which will stay there permanently as a reminder of my first visit. I would like to say thanks for the invitation – it was really nice to spend time with everybody there."

250cc, 2004, Dani Pedrosa
