Byrne on the road to recovery

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne says he is making good progress with his recovery from a badly broken wrist, sustained during practice at the Gauloises Grand Prix Ceske Republiky in August. The former British Superbike Champion returned to action at Motegi in September but has missed the last three races after undergoing an operation.

"Things are coming on well - the wrist is out of plaster and the stitches have been removed," says Byrne. "The operation was only a month ago and so I'm pleased the way things are going."

The MS Aprilia rider will be back in the MotoGP paddock at Valencia as a spectator this weekend and admitted that he is looking forward to a positive few days both personally and professionally.

"I don't think I've ever looked forward to watching a race so much as Valencia!" he says. "I know I'm not riding but I'm so excited about getting there, it feels like I've hardly raced at all this year. I really have missed the laughs we have off track too – we have a right giggle sometimes and I'm really looking forward to being back in the paddock.

"As far as being there next year goes there's nothing 100% at the moment although hopefully by the time everything's finished at Valencia I guess pretty much everyone will be sorted."
