Points target for Dovizioso

With the World Championship already under his belt, Andrea Dovizioso needs just eight points from the final round of the 2004 season at Valencia this weekend to move ahead of Dirk Raudies into second place in the list of highest ever points scorers in a single 125cc season.

Raudies, who won the title in 1993 with 280 points, is bettered only by current MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi's 1997 haul of 321 points. Dovizioso currently lies third in the chart on 273 points and is confident of improving his score despite never finishing on the podium at this circuit in the past.

"The Valencia circuit has never been easy for me," admits the Italian, who will move up to the 250cc class next season. "I find slow tracks difficult. I prefer long fast corners at circuits like Phillip Island, Barcelona and Assen. Still I'm going to Valencia with the intention of winning the race."

Following his victory at Phillip Island, if Dovizioso wins the 125cc race in Valencia he will end a record sequence of thirty-eight races without a rider in the class winning back-to-back races since Arnaud Vincent won at Donington and then Sachsenring in 2002.

"I'm in very good form and the bike is really strong now so it would be a good way to end my 125cc career if I could take back-to-back wins," he continued. "I'd be the first rider to do it for two years so, like I say, it would be a nice way to sign off."
