Battaini the best privateer once again

Franco Battaini clinched the Micheal Metreaux Trophy for the Best Privateer for the fourth time at Valencia on Sunday with a stirring ride to fourth place. The odds were stacked against the Italian to overhaul the injured Anthony West from tenth in the 250cc World Championship standings but he ended up with a five point advantage over the Australian thanks to his best result of the season.

"I think that today we have finally taken our revenge against the bad luck that has punished us in other races this year!" said Battaini after the race. "For sure after Phillip Island we have arrived in Valencia with apprehension which, perhaps, has done us good.

"My first thank you goes to my Chief Mechanic Gianluca Montanari who together with his mechanics has given me a very competitive bike at a circuit where I have never raced with such a powerful machine in the past.

"A special thanks goes to the whole team and its sponsors, to Aprilia, Dunlop, Regina, Brembo, Dell'Orto, Domino and IP. Finally, a sincere thank you to my personal and technical sponsors and to all my fans who have believed in me and that have kept me going me throughout the season."

This is the second time that Battaini has won the prestigious title with the Campetella Racing team, who said in a statement: "Campetella Racing Team Management and all its staff would like to congratulate and thank Franco for another wonderful victory together."
