Porto happy despite crash

Sebastián Porto said that he would be heading home to Argentina this week in positive mood despite crashing out of the final race of the 250cc World Championship at Valencia on Sunday.

Porto crashed out of second place nine laps after conceding the lead to Dani Pedrosa but said he was confident of battling for victory with the Spaniard until suffering mechanical problems.

Looking back it was a nice race despite what happened, said Porto, who hurt his finger in the crash. I pushed hard over the first few laps as I always do and set a fast pace to try and open up a gap, but I saw that wasnt possible.

Halfway through the race Dani got past me and escaped a little bit. He managed to open up a bit of a gap but my intention was to get back at him later in the race because I had a slightly harder tyre than him.

As it turned out we had a few problems with the tyre and it was sliding around a little bit, but the main problem turned out to be in the gearbox. As I came out of the corner the gear skipped and I lost traction and that was the cause of the crash.

It was a real shame because I wanted to sign off from the year in a positive way and even if I hadnt won the race then second place would have been good. Bad luck crossed our path once more but thats the way it goes generally its been a good season for us and I am happy with how its gone.
