Barberá signs for Fortuna Honda

Fortuna Honda have signed Hector Barberá to contest the 250cc World Championship in 2005 as part of a new project with Seedorf Racing. The two Spanish outfits have agreed a collaboration which will also see Clarence Seedorf's 125cc team switch from Aprilia to Honda machinery.

Jorge Lorenzo has been confirmed by Fortuna Honda as team-mate to Barberá and the pair were making their quarter-litre debuts in a private test at Valencia on Wednesday riding the Honda 250 RSW. Barberá makes the step up after finishing runner-up in the 125cc World Championship this season.

"It was a year that began with a lot of hope and expectation," he reflected. "I've had some really hard times and some really good ones, but the team and Clarence Seedorf have always been behind me.

"The race at Valencia and the runner-up spot in the championship was a good way to end. I would like to say thank you to Seedorf Racing for giving me the opportunity to move up to 250cc and I'm sure that together we have found the right way forward."

Meanwhile, Álvaro Bautista has been named as the number one rider in a 125cc squad to be directed by revered chief mechanic Tommaso Raponi.
