Hero homecoming for Porto

Sebastián Porto returned to his hometown of Rafaela in Argentina to a hero's welcome this week, with several hundred fans and well-wishers turning out to congratulate him on a stellar season in the 250cc World Championship.

Porto hit form in the second half of the season to push runaway leader Dani Pedrosa to the penultimate round of the championship and looks certain to challenge again next season after confirming that he will be staying with Aprilia and Team Aspar.

A caravan of supporters followed Porto from the airport in Buenos Aires back to Rafaela, where a motorcycle in the colours of the Repsol Aspar Team had been prepared for him to make a victory lap of the town square. Applause and traditional singing provided the backdrop to Porto's burn-outs, whilst a giant screen showed images of his career – beginning with his first road races on a bicycle!

Porto then stepped up to a mock podium, where he was joined by his parents, Vilma and "Cachi". "With so much travelling and racing I haven't really stopped to think about what I have achieved," admitted Porto.

"But now that I am back in Rafaela I can start to enjoy this wonderful season, and everything we have worked and fought for with "Aspar" and his mechanics."
