Toni Elías made his unofficial MotoGP debut in a private test with Yamaha at Valencia on Wednesday. Whilst Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards have been confirmed as the main pairing by the factory team, there has been no official statement on Hervé Poncharal's second string line-up although Elías now looks a certainty after his impressive performance at the Spanish track.

Elías set a best time of 1'35.48 on the first day – just short of Dani Pedrosa's time of 1'35.24 on the Honda RC211V – but lowered it to a 1'35.1 on Thursday before the test was cut short by rain.

"It's always been my dream to race in MotoGP since I was a small child so I am delighted," said Elías after the first day. "I know it will be tough because I will be riding against the best riders in the world but I am looking forward to the challenge.

"I had heard a lot about the power of these bikes but I must admit I was surprised by how much it pulls. With that and the engine braking in particular it took me a while to get used to the bike but for the last twenty laps I really started to enjoy myself."
