Di Meglio ready to start recovery

Mike di Meglio says he can't wait to start his winter fitness campaign after missing the final race of the season through injury. The French teenager fractured his right ankle at Motegi in October and rode through the pain barrier at Malaysia and Phillip Island before pulling out of Valencia.

However, the youngster is set to have a plaster cast removed next week and will be able to begin preparations for a new challenge in 2005, after his Racing team merged with Kopron Team Scot and announced that they would be switching from Aprilia to Honda machinery.

"The change of bike shouldn't bee too much of a problem because I have ridden a Honda before," commented Di Meglio. "The only thing is that the chassis might be a bit small because I have grown a little but I am not too worried about that.

"The team are still in negotiations to try and get the best material possible and I still don't know if I will be on factory machinery or a kitted bike, but I will be working with the same chief mechanic and the rest of the technical staff should be the same as this year.

"At the moment I can't do much because I recently had an operation on my ankle. I'm just doing a little bit of weight training but I have to wait until next week for them to remove the plaster. After that I'll be able to start my rehabilitation programme and get ready for the first tests in February."
