Hofmann to race supermoto in Las Vegas

Alex Hofmann is set to pit his riding talents against some of the biggest names in American motorcycling this weekend at the AMA Red Bull Supermoto A-Go-Go in Las Vegas.

The Kawasaki MotoGP rider will be up against top men from the AMA Championship such as Jeff Ward, Doug Henry and Jurgen Kunzel, S1 Supermoto World Champion Eddy Seel as well as other guest stars including Ben Bostrom, Boris Chambon and Kurt Nicoll.

Hofmann started his career as a motocross racer before switching to road racing so he should feel right at home in supermoto. The 24 year old German will ride a specially prepared Kawasaki KLX400, a motorcycle that has never been raced in AMA Supermoto competition.

Bostrom came to a last-minute agreement with Honda to race in Las Vegas. The defending AMA Supermoto Champion showed his prowess last year by taking victory in the action-packed championship finale over Henry and Ward. Bostrom solidified his claim to being one of the best supermoto riders in the world when he made a riveting last-lap pass on Seel to win the inaugural X-Games Supermoto final this summer.

The competition is certainly tough for Hofmann, who begins qualifying on Friday for the heat races and finals on Saturday, which are open free to the public.
