Simón impressed with KTM after first test

Julián Simón says he has a chance of winning the 125cc World Championship in 2005 after his first test with KTM at Valencia this week. The Spanish teenager rode alongside Mika Kallio despite poor weather conditions at his home track and reflected positively on his first session as a factory rider.

"I am really happy with my debut with the new team – I really like the way they work, they're very professional," said Simon, who will form part of a three-man team alongside Kallio and Gabor Talmacsi.

"On the first day we had a few problems with the wind, which prevented us from getting through as much work as we would have liked, but the general idea was to get an initial feeling for the bike over the two days.

"I rode with Kallio and it was good for both of us. We set similar lap times although that wasn't the focus of the test. The important thing was to get some laps under my belt and learn about the bike.

"The KTM is a very fast bike and, although we had a few chassis problems, I think it is going to be very competitive and is capable of winning the World Championship. We are three fast riders and KTM have got the mentality to go for the title, which is important."
