Garrido wins Movistar Junior Cup

Ion Garrido clinched overall victory in the MoviStar Junior Cup 2004 with his fifth victory of the season at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia on Sunday.

With one round still remaining at Jerez next week, Garrido displayed the sort of dominance which he has exerted over his rivals all season, leading the race from pole position to the chequered flag and enhancing his reputation as the next big star of Spanish motorcycling.

Despite his authority, Garrido's victory was anything but comfortable as he came under constant pressure from José Miguel Aguilar, who crossed the line just 0.770 seconds behind the winner to secure second place in the race and the championship.

Rubén Torres completed the podium for the third race in succession and will battle it out for third in the series with Ricard Cardús, Efrén Vázquez and Adrián Bonastre in the final round.
